Dongara Denision Art Group Tea Towel
We recently printed a stunning artwork onto our Natural Cotton tea towels for the Dongara Denison Art Group. Titled "Our Place" the tea towels sold so quickly they had to place another order for them not long after receiving the first. We asked organiser Kelli to share more info on the group and how the piece was created; "Our Place" was produced as part of the Hard Pressed Project (https://www.facebook.com/hardpressedwa/) - a community arts venture into large scale wood block printing using heavy machinery, or a 'steamroller' as a press. The original print is 1200mm x 900mm. Six members of the Dongara Denison Art Group (https://www.facebook.com/dongaraartgroup/) collaborated on the design, composition and carving of our artwork. The print portrays a strong sense of place incorporating the patterns, textures an iconic imagery of Dongara from the Irwin river mouth to the sea and beyond. After the Hard Pressed exhibition tour we photographed our artwork and had it re-produced as a fundraiser tea towel. The tea towels have sold well and are still available from the group. The money raised will go towards rent and insurance for our art rooms at Denison House as well as our next major project - a site specific installation art trail along the Irwin River planned to launch in early 2019. The Shire of Irwin has also approved grant funding for this. A detailed section of 'Our Place' has been hand-coloured by one of our artists and transposed onto canvas forming the Shire of Irwin entry in the 2018 'Banners on the Terrace' exhibition on display along the St George and Adelaide Terraces in Perth from 22nd July - 4th August." We love the final artwork and the tea towels, well done to everyone involved!
